- Looking at the cost of the phone line that you probably already have is
- like looking at the cost of power for the device. I agree, modems are
- slower than Zips but modems and serial links are more usable in relation to
- floppies.

-
- Yes but the price of distributing data on Zips would be to high. If they
- brought their own Zip, then it wouldn't be bad but if you had to provide
- them, your looking at a lot of money.

- The point is there are choices for anyone that wants to distribute data
- and shouldn't be limited to a floppy drive as the only distribution medium.

-
- : I give floppies to friends all the time, I don't make a production out of

-
- I regularly give floppies to some friends when the come by. I've got no
- use for them. I purged my disk collection last summer, killing what I had
- copies of on CDs and wrote the rest to a CD. I've got about 600 blank
- floppies that I'm not doing anything with. Between that and the disks
- that AOL sends me all the time, I'll never buy another floppy.
-
-
- : WAY TOO SLOW. 28.8K is *pathetic* considering some of the 24-bit image,
- : sound, and movie files that are around today.
-
- So are floppies.
-
-
- : No. Internal Zips for vendors result in an end-user cost of $159.
-
- I wish I could get one of those internal Zips. Are they in a 5.25" or
- 3.5" mounting? I've got a open 5.25" bay in my 4000 for one. If it's
- 3.5", I would gladly remove my floppy drive to fit one in.
-
-
- : Zip would be slightly more expensive, but it would replace the floppy
- : which I argued MUST be kept if another standard alternative couldn't be
- : found.
-
- I have no problem with new Amigas having Zip drive in them, but they must
- have CDROM drive. A Zip for backup & data transfer, and a CDROM for
- distribution of software. I just think it might be cheaper for AT to do hard
- drive and CDROM.
